A preppy bedroom design

>> August 10, 2012

Happy Friday dear friends! Is anyone else as excited as I am for Friday? Any big plans among the group? It's supposed to rain off and on all weekend, so I am a little disappointed that another beach day isn't in our future for this weekend. But I do have a massage and facial scheduled for Sunday, so I am counting the minutes until that! This girl needs a little pampering, let me tell you.

My good friend Dana from business school just bought her first house (yey Dana!) and is in the middle of the new homeowner glow. She's planning a bathroom gut job, refinishing hard wood floors, picking out paint colors, and basically excited as all heck to finally have liberty to redesign her own space. Dana was asking my opinion on purchasing a new bedding set, so of course I offered her suggestions and screamed with delight, when she said I could create a whole bedroom design board around my suggestion.

So thank you, Dana, for being a friend (and guinea pig) for the blog! Some of Dana's initial ideas around a new bedding set involved kelly green and navy blue - plus, she's a preppy girl at heart (much like myself), so it was easy for me to take that direction and run with it!

After I found the perfect set of sheets and pillow (nothing says prepster like a monogram throw pillow), the rest of the room started falling into place. White curtains with a self-applied pompom trim (which could also be added to the hem of a plain white bedskirt), help reinforce the preppy, but feminine vibe of this room.

Dana cycles in her spare time (how the girl finds time to work, buy/renovate a house, as well as train daily - I will never know), so I thought the vintage cycling poster, accenting the green, was a natural and personal touch. I also selected furniture pieces with classic lines, that will never go out of style - so even if Dana decides tomorrow, she more of a tangerine-type of girl, the furniture will still work.

I had a hard time deciding between a green-on-green traditional print rug, and this bold, graphic navy rug. But ultimately, I thought the navy was just too amazing to pass up. And I think Dana liked the pick too! A slipper chair in a green botanical print helps round out the space - I think every bedroom needs a chair for lounging, or just holding clothes when you're too lazy to hang them up!

So Dana, I hope this inspires you to create a great first place! I can't wait to see how it all comes together. And if you need any help with demo...well, I'll send the Hubby right over....I'll follow with snacks.

p.s. On a side note - this is my 600th post! Happy milestone to the little blog that could - and thanks to all the readers who visit each day. I {heart} you all, and am thankful you choose to spend a few minutes of your day with me.

Hooray! I love being the guinea pig!

I'm not sure what part is my favorite.. the chair, the rug, or the fact that I have an excuse to monogram something else!

Fun fact: I already have that cycling poster print framed. Shannon is a mind reader :)

Now I just need to put both Shannon and the hubby on retainer and my house will start to look like theirs....
