Camera phone post
>> November 4, 2011
It's been awhile since I let you follow me around for a day, so I've been taking some pictures with my phone to get you up to speed.
Because days are now a bit more crazy with a little girl to care for, I do a lot of preparation at night. That way in the morning, things are ready to go. My lunch is waiting for me, and Hubby's lunch is waiting for him. Guess which is which.
Before I head out the door, I blow kisses to this love bug. She loves her rocking chair, she could sit and watch us get ready all day. I think she critiques my outfit every morning, she's either smiling (an outfit she "likes") or pensive and observing (an outfit she "dislikes"). At this moment, she'd rather smoosh her face into her woobie than say good-bye to mommy.
Sitting in traffic on the way to work. I hate traffic and I hate sitting in it. I've tried back roads. And taking the highway - even filled with traffic - is still faster. I don't know what's worse, moving and being late, or sitting and being on time.
I don't have time to eat breakfast before I leave the house (I can't figure out how to squeeze it in!) - so I have breakfast at my desk while reading through emails. It's always oatmeal and coffee. I find that having a predictable breakfast every morning helps start the day on a nice note. It tempers the unpredictability of my day.
This hot bag has a permanent home next to my desk. I am pumping twice a day, which I refer to as my "black bag meetings". I share an office with a colleague, so I go to an empty space for these "meetings". I read magazines to pass the time, today I have an old copy of Coastal Living.
Mmmm...someone had cake left over from a Halloween party that they left in our kitchen. I love cake and I love chocolate, so I helped myself to a (large-ish) slice. Once I stop nursing, I will definitely have to reign in my eating habits.
Hmm...what else can I show you? I work in marketing, and project planning and timelines are a big part of the job here. I sit in front of this calendar everyday. It keeps things on track and on record. It looms over me, kinda like God.
Here's what's on my desk. Hand lotion (I hate winter dryness!!) My two computer monitors are "up" on a stack of books, instead of the normal stands. The books are higher than most stands; and I'm tall, to be honest. Plus, we had a bunch around the office that no one used. A picture of Caroline in her dalmatian costume at Hubby's work Halloween party. Isn't she adorable? She looks at me while I'm working away all day and just says "Hi Mommy, I miss you. When are you coming home?"
This is Kate. She is our team Admin extraordinaire! She was caught a little off-guard when I took this picture. But I thought she looked super cute, so I decided to keep it anyways. Kate is a super fabulous dresser and always comes dressed to the 9s. In fact, my office is filled with a number of snazzy dressed women. I was thinking of doing a Project Shannon "Sartorialist"-style post with work people. Would you be interested in that? Or does that just seem lame?
On the way home, I usually take back roads, I find the casual drive through the suburbs helps me wind down. But on this particular day, I decided to "get home faster" by taking the highway again. Sucker. Wouldn't you know the one day I decide to take the "fast way" is the one day there was a major accident which caused a huge backup? So I sat in traffic, not moving, for 15 minutes. (I hope no one was hurt!)
When I got home, I was greeted by this...
...and this. Hubby went home during his lunch hour to decorate the house for Halloween. He did a nice job. Too bad the town ended up
Part of the evening prep is washing my pumping parts to use the next day.
I also pick out Caroline's outfit for the next day. Hubby usually gets her dressed in the morning, and sometimes he can't be trusted.
I also pick out my outfit. I have to find a "pumping approved" ensemble for each day. The last thing I want is to find myself ready for a "black bag meeting", in a dress that is not so accessible, shall we say? Plus, in my rush to get everything together in the morning, it makes it so much easier to just toss this on and go. I was looking back at the last day I documented, and I realized I was wearing this same sweater. This is a total coincidence, and I do have more than one outfit. Promise.
Alright, so that's my day - more or less. Thanks for following me around! Happy weekend!

Totally loved reading this. I have to go back to work in 6+ weeks (it's going by too fast) and I am already wondering how this is all going to get done.
I love posts like these! Keep of the good work!
