Resolution: be more crafty

>> December 29, 2009

Crafty McCrafterson here.  With New Year's right around the corner, it's time to make our resolutions.  Beyond the normal: lose weight, keep in better touch, save more dough, etc.... I am vowing to be more crafty.  Often while decorating, I don't have the foresight to see how I could transform my space on a tighter budget, using materials I already have.  I often resort to just purchasing something, when a little thought might have saved me some trouble and some cash.  With a new house, this seems like a reasonable resolution.

And first up: A roman shade and box valance project.

Using these project plans from one of my favorite blogs, Little Green Notebook, I was able to create a roman shade and two matching box valances for my kitchen, for less than $45...and it only cost me that much because I chose nice fabric.  You can visit LGN for the instructions, but you can see my work here!

I was able to line my roman shade to filter less light, and I trimmed my box valances with a inexpensive cord detail.  Both elements added cost and time to the project, but I love the results!  I would say the total took me about 6 hours, two hours for each piece.  But if I had to do it again, it would definitely take me less time, now that I know what I am doing!

But I think it turned out really well.  That's the first step to a new year and a resolution I {might} be able to keep!

Beautiful. I am so impressed. I need to find a room to do this to in my house! :)
